Cedartown First United Methodist has suspended all church activities for the time being. The decision was made following the recommendation of our Bishop Sue Haupert-Johnson and in line with efforts to keep everyone safe and to halt the spread of the novel coronavirus.
After prayerful consideration, Cedartown First agreed with Bishop Haupert-Johnson that “while weekly public worship is an essential part of our method and a vital spiritual discipline … we also recognize our need to gather for worship in times of anxiety and uncertainty. Now, however, our public gathering may violate Wesley’s first general rule, which is ‘Do no harm’.”
All church activities are suspended including Sunday Services, Sunday school, Wednesday night supper, scheduled Bible studies, and the First United Methodist Preschool. Committee meetings will be rescheduled at an appropriate time when the threat of flu and novel coronavirus has lessened.
Bishop Haupert-Johnson added that “under these highly unusual circumstances, the safe course of action is to stay home and avoid exposure. Please call a friend or a prayer partner and read comforting Scripture or devotional materials to calm your spirit.” In addition, a list of live-streamed or recorded worship services at ngumc.org is available to watch online. The list will be compiled and made available shortly.
Cedartown First UMC's offices are closed; however, we want to provide the love and care you need as we face the challenges this pandemic has created. We will monitor telephone messages. Please call our office at 770.748.4731 if you are in need. You can leave a message for Pastor Mark or our church secretary, Reba. Someone from our church will reach out to you as soon as possible.
