The United Methodist Women
Cedartown First United Methodist Church
What exactly IS UMW?
We are the United Methodist Women of Cedartown First. Our purpose is "To know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative, supportive fellowship; and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church.
Many of you may think of us as the "flea market ladies, the ladies who bring the covered dishes, or the ladies who sell those cookbooks. What in the world do we do with all that money? This year, our budget includes generous donations to local missions including the Boys and Girls Club, Lyle and Diana's Ministry, Murphy Harpst, and "Our House. We also help fund CFUMC's Vacation Bible School, Youth activities, Upper Room devotional books to shut-ins, and compassion meals to bereaved church members. In addition to personal pledges for global missions as a group, we fund Health Kits for flood victims and the resources to keep the entire UMW global mission programs going for a few minutes. We work hard for programs that we deeply believe in.
One of the wonderful things we receive from the UMW is being a part of a fellowship of women who desire a closer relationship with God. We strive for spiritual growth and support for each other. Our Circles (smaller groups that meet each month to foster that spiritual growth) are named after saintly CFUMW women who came before us: June Jewell, Sarah Huff, Ann Norman and Mary Hamrick. If you are interested in being a part of one of these groups, call me (748-5139) or the Church Office to find out which group's meetings might fit your schedule. If you aren't able to join a circle but would like to be included in the UMW fellowship and projects, give me a call and I can include you in our calling circle or email list.
