Summer Feeding Program

The Polk County School District is partnering with local groups to provide summer meals to children who may be experiencing food shortage due to the summer months.  Known as the Seamless Summer Feeding Program, we will be partnering with an existing program, Crossroads Bridging The Gap, which is a mentoring and tutoring program with an existing ministry presence at the Turner Street Recreation Center and led by Pastor Willie Simpson.

There are seven weeks that we are attempting to offer this program and will need a weekly coordinator, a transport team and/or daily servers.  We will serve lunch at noon each day.  The program is Monday – Friday and involves picking up a cooler from Cedartown High School, with milk and prepackaged meals, bringing it to the Turner Center, feeding the children, accounting for meals served and then returning unused portions and coolers to the high school.  Pastor Simpson may have other opportunities to serve, if individuals are interested, beyond the scope of actually serving the meals. This feeding ministry will run the weeks of June 5th, June 12th, June 19th, June 26th, July 10th, July 17th, and July 24th.  We WILL NOT run the ministry on July 4th holiday week.Individuals may sign up, via online or hard copy, as a weekly coordinator, or as a daily transport team and/or meal server.

Generally, servants may sign up to serve on as many or as few days as they desire.  We do ask that the Weekly Coordinator and the Transport Team plan to commit for their time for the whole week.  As with any ministry or program, relationship building and getting to know our community is important so the more you can serve in any given week, the better the opportunity to get to know one another and those we are serving.Summary of Weekly Schedule…
